The typeface is inspired by the curved, restless movement of a rat’s tail — playful, unpredictable, and always ready to curl and move in whichever direction it wants. Its flowing strokes create a sense of movement, as if the letters themselves are constantly wriggling and shifting.
Sitting somewhere between handwriting and script, the typeface has an informal, hand-drawn quality while maintaining a strong visual character. One of its defining features is the curl at the end of each letter, which echoes the shape and movement of a rat’s tail. These extended terminals almost behave like serifs, giving the typeface a distinctive rhythm while adding a sense of whimsy and mischief to the branding.
The exaggerated proportions and unpredictable curls keep the lettering feeling lively rather than polished or formal, reflecting the playful and slightly quirky character of London Rats.
